Helping pets and people
A lot goes on behind the scenes of Heidi’s Kitten Rescue, and I wanted to share a few of the recent adventures in helping pets and their people.
We were able to foster a mom and her kittens for a family that was homeless and could not have their pet for a time; they surrendered the kittens to us, and the foster agreed to hold the mom with them for a week or two (this is not a service we normally do). Through the kindness of a local nonprofit momma was spayed and given her shots for free, and yesterday, mom was returned to her human as their emotional support animal (she has always been so…and in this instance, we agree, mom is a wonderful and supportive cat). The kittens are almost ready to be fixed and find forever homes. The foster, the vet, and myself all supported this family at no charge. It always feels good when a family wants their pet, and just needs a little support to find their way. Mom is home, and will have no more litters!
I got a call about two weeks ago about some kittens someone had rescued but needed help with. The two orange girls I posted on my page! The finder says they were being kept in a cage and laying in their own feces. They got permission to remove the kittens, and called me for help. I provided the finder high quality kitten food (thanks to your donations!), dewormed, and vaccinated the kittens, and when the weather got cold I was asked to find a new situation for them. We were working on a foster home when someone stepped up saying they wanted to adopt. Normally, we don’t give our kittens away for free, there are so many issues with this; but I knew the family and that they would follow through on fixing the girls and giving them a wonderful forever home. So those two pretty girls went straight to their forever home, and they get to stay together forever.
Also in the past week, I had been asked to look for a new home for some unsocialized older kittens who were living and being fed in a parking lot close to a highway. Their mom had already been killed by a car. At one of our events I found a wonderful family looking for some outdoor cats and they were willing to take all three! Again in this instance, I was the conduit to connect people and pets (and sometimes vets), and those cats were fixed and moved to a new home where they are acclimating now before they will be released. The family has a heated outdoor cat house for them and they are going to be living their best lives, away from a highway. We always accept donations, but there was no charge for networking these kitties.
